What people say about Baroo
Recent reviews of Baroo seem overwhelmingly positive about the blend of Korean fermentation techniques, fine-dining approach, and room ambiance. Customers praise the noodles, fish, short rib, rice, and pairings, while many consider the $140 tasting menu an excellent value considering the amount of attention paid to the menu despite the fact that the experience is still clearly for special occasions.
About Baroo
A couple of chefs, Kwang Uh and Mina Park, run the restaurant in Arts District. Dinner service is organized as a sequence that mimics a life cycle with such ingredients as fermented black bean, gochujang, gamtae, makgeolli, and other Korean elements presented in modern ways.
Baroo is an interesting example of modern Korean fine dining in the Arts District with the use of fermentation and Korean pantry ingredients and California vegetables in a tasting-menu setting. The cooking style is elegant but not pretentious, and vegetarian and vegan variations can be ordered upon request.
The default menu is composed of six courses, although some sections of the menu have pairs and alternatives among dishes. The courses included are free of extra charges.
